Air Services Australia celebrates Woman of Aviation Week

Social development Skills

In March 2014, as part of the international 4th Annual Women of Aviation week, a week of activities celebrating and highlighting the achievements of women, Airservices Australia has taken an active stand to support the careers of women in the industry.

By partnering with the Institute for Women of Aviation Worldwide, Aiservices have dedicate efforts to attracting women to operational areas of the organisation such as air traffic control, engineering and aviation rescue fire-fighting, while also continuing to foster their development throughout the organisation by promoting initiatives such as the Women in Leadership forum.

Airservices' dedication to female empowerment is also demonstrated by their partnership with the Australian Women’s Pilots Association (AWPA), through which they offer four $8,000 scholarships annually to help subsidise the continuous training of private or commercial pilots.

Particularly interesting about this year’s project was the theme ‘Pushing the limits: 100 years of female aerobatic pilots and 50 years of women flying solo around the world’. Throughout the week, the company organised information sessions and free flights for women in light aircraft at airports all over the world to help raise awareness of potential careers for women in aviation.

Overall, These initiatives are part of Airservices’s broader commitment to supporting diversity within the workplace and promoting opportunities for women in aviation in order to overcome rigid social barriers between gender and profession.
