The air transport industry generated an estimated 75,000 direct jobs in the small island states in 2018, which breaks down into:
- Airline employees: 20,000 (26% of the total)
- Airport operators: 15,000 (20%)
- Other on-airport jobs: 36,000 (48%)
- Air navigation service providers: 4,000 (5%)
Moreover, substantial benefits derived from tourist spending which has added an estimated 1.8 million to employment and $31 billion in GDP.
